The Bluff star Priyanka Chopra felt 'safe and protected' while filming her own stunts

Priyanka Chopra felt "safe and protected" while filming her own stunts for her new pirate movie The Bluff.

The 43-year-old actress plays a former pirate who is determined to protect her son at all costs in the new Amazon Prime swashbuckler and she's revealed she took part in as many action sequences as possible because it's "weird" when actors' faces are hidden during pivotal moments.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: "This movie required my face to be on camera a lot, and I’m not a hero when I do action movies. I’ve done them from the beginning of my career.

"I do enjoy it when I’m watching an action movie and I can see the actor’s face while they’re doing it. It’s weird when you’re trying to hide it and stuff. That’s strange.

"But because this was a dramatic performance and I might be looking out for my kid while I’m killing people, it required me to do a lot of my own stunts.

"I also had an incredible stunt team ... When you’re surrounded by the right people, they will make sure that you’re protected and that everything is taken care of in the right way for it to be safe.

"That makes it much easier as an actor to trust, and I had immense faith in the team that we had."

She added: "There were, of course, a few shots I couldn’t do. One was because we were shooting multiple units at the same time, so scheduling didn’t allow it.

"Then there were times where it was just too dangerous, and insurance wouldn’t allow it. So I left that greater decision to the stunt team of where they would use me and where they wouldn’t."

Priyanka went on to explain why so many actors are keen to do their own stunts - insisting they want to keep the continuity in their performance,

She added: "I do think that a lot of actors like to be able to do their stunts as long as they can do it safely.

"As actors, we know the body language that might be required by our character -much better than a double would. So I think most actors do prefer that."

Priyanka previously opened up about the movie - which is released on Amazon Prime Video on February 25 - during an appearance on The Discourse podcast, revealing it was a tough shoot.

The actress admitted there was "no time for anybody to fall sick. There was just no room," before adding: "But, I mean, it looks great, and it turned out great"

Priyanka - who is mother to a daughter with her husband Nick Jonas - went on to share that she drew on her on experiences of motherhood for her role, saying: "Besides the fact that I get to play a female pirate. I mean, when do we get to see that in the history of cinema?

"I was a new mom when the script came to me. My daughter was two years old. And I would rip someone’s head off if they came after her.

"So I knew that motivation … that was my North Star for [my charatcer] through the whole film."
